Review of Smart People (2008) by Toni S — 29 Apr 2009
I'm a sucker for the slight indie dark comedies like the Royal Tenenbaums and I Love Huckabees. I think too many people had high expectations given that the cast is a bit star studded with Quaid, Jessica Parker,Thomas Haden Church and of course Juno! The plot goes from mildly suspenseful to anticlimactic, since nothing much really goes on.
From the title you try to look for it's message about smart people but you really don't by the time you finish the movie. The dialogue is great and witty, as expected and doesn't fall into any kind of cliche.
The four main characters are great and the only thing gets you riveted in the movie. Otherwise, there's nothing much that goes on. Haden Church is great and he definitely takes an interesting route from his Sandman like character.
