Review of Smart People (2008) by Brandon E — 25 Aug 2009
This movie is a enlightening portrayal at how book-smart people are sometimes just downright stupid. This is too edgy to be a romantic comedy, but too light to be another Juno. The sadistic Denis Quaid is somewhat unexpected being that he always plays such down to earth, or uptight characters.
Thomas Haden Church was absolutely convincing and so was ellen page, to me they were the spark in this film. Sarah Jessica Parker. I keep forgetting she was in this film, her character is so flat and unrememberable that its rediculous, because she is a relatively decent actress.
Overall this is a bitter indie about a smart dysfunctional family who make dumb decisions.
