Review of Small Time Crooks (2000) by Andrew K — 05 Feb 2008
In my humble opinion, this is Allen's second best movie after Annie Hall. It's humor is very subtle at times. Stupid people trying, and failing most of the time, to act smart. While I usually don't like Tracey Ulman, she was great as Frenchy.
Rapaport, Lovitz and Darrow were fantastic as the dim-witted partners in crime. Elaine May as the equally dim cousin was fantastic. She perfected the deer in the headlights look. After seeing such recent serious films as Match Point, it was fun to watch a classic comic at work.
Great movie!
