Review of Small Time Crooks (2000) by Darren S — 14 Apr 2008
Did you know there are 5000 dialects of English in New York alone?
Small Time Crooks is a hilarious comedy about couple Ray (Woody Allen) and Frenchie (Tracey Ullman). Ray comes up with a plan to hit the bug bucks by buying up a shop near a bank and digging a whole, while Frenchie runs the subterfuge cookie shop.
The cookie shop hits the big time, while the tunneling takes a turn for the worst. The rest is history ... leopard print, truffle thingies, finger bowls and leopard print.
Allen and Ullman make a great team throughout the whole show.
Absolute star of this one is actor/director Elaine May, who plays Frenchie's cousin May. As clueless as the character comes across, she's the only one her wits.
Take a hike! Go watch it! Knock it awwff!
