Review of Small Time Crooks (2000) by Noah R — 27 Jul 2008
A fun premise in which Woody and a bunch of pals try to rob a bank whilst using a cookie-store as a cover is sadly let down by a stagnating second act in which Woody and his wife become part of the eccentric "nouveau-riche" society with more money that they can handle.
The film picks up pace again in the final act but perhaps breaking up the group of dim-witted pals so soon was a big mistake as their chemistry was what made the first act so much fun. Oh well, Small Time Crooks is still worth a look because when it does work it is very funny stuff.
