Review of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) by Jess L — 06 Feb 2013

There's a lot of hype surrounding this movie and for the most part it lives up to it. I was engrossed in the story, it's filmed beautifully and the acting is superb. The only time the film didn't sit right with me was in the closing scenes.

When Jamal receives his final question on the show I felt like groaning... I'm all for tying up loose ends, making things nice and neat but this was just a painful plot devise that brought down my impression of the overall film.

Essentially the majority of the film sways away from Hollywood convention but alas Danny Boyle brings it back at the end and tarnishes it for me somewhat. This is one of the better films of 2008 and I would say a must see.
