Review of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) by Edwin P — 22 Jul 2013
This is an ingenious piece of filmmaking as it takes what was a very successful TV game show to tell an uplifting story of love, coming of age and loss of innocence set against the back drop of India's slum life and less than desirable social conditions affecting its most vulnerable population - orphans and children.
Its tight editing gives the film its added suspense and thrill. A.R. Rahman's music is infectious. And then there's the Bollywood song and dance sequence in the end, which almost seems obligatory these days for films shot in India. Skillfully directed and a captivating story, "Slumdog Millionaire" is a masterstroke.
