Review of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) by Matt M — 27 Dec 2013
A street kid or 'slumdog' takes part in India's version of the hit TV show Who Wants to Be a Millionaire. However, when he exceeds expectations, he is arrested under suspicion of being a cheat.
As he is being interrogated, he starts telling the story of his life, and the experiences that made his answer the questions correctly. Danny Boyle is craftily able to brilliantly juxtapose the suspenseful TV show story with the adventurous and often dramatic and crude depiction of the upbringing of a slumdog, the story really is mainly a touching love story that makes this film a majestic ambitious feel good film.
Inspired by the Bollywood style, but not necessarily exploiting and rather infusing the western influence to it rather than imposing it, Slumdog Millionaire is not only an interesting story but also a colourful and vivid treat for the eyes.
