Review of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) by Dean M — 07 Jun 2012
What really works here is the narrative being told through the answering of questions on a quiz show. How could a slumdog know all the answers? Well there's a story behind each answer and most of the time it's not for the faint hearted.
It's surprisingly violent in parts especially when it comes to the cruelty inflicted on the main character Jamal as a young boy. I did find it odd that Jamal's brother was obviously about five years older when they were teenagers as opposed to the start of the movie when they were around the same age?
The cinematography is the real star of the movie, it looks brilliant and is a complete eye opener into the life of a third world country. The myriad of colours literally jump off the screen and give you hope in what appears to be a hopeless situation.
The love story is a bit lacklustre which is really the only part where the movie fails. I just didn't feel the connection.
Winner of Best Picture and a must see just for the cinematography alone.
