Review of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) by Jayakrishnan R — 03 May 2013

Slumdog Millionaire shows one of the real faces of India, the story line is unique and the acting is really good. But I did find trouble with the love story here, it lacked the true depth, it felt more like infatuation. Besides this one of the worst things about this movie is that they gave A.R. Rahman an Oscar , proving again and again that the Americans know nothing about real music. 'Jai Ho' was nothing but noice, there were no elements of real music in it.
But there is a thing in this film that does not have sense. How did the Slumdog learn English? He speaks it fluently like a professional. You should understand English is not an Indian language, people will definitely have trouble with foreign languages until they sync properly with it. Without even proper coaching the slumdog overcomes that difficalty.
One thing I really like about this film is that unlike all the other American films that are set in India, this film portrays the cruelties of an unexplored India( however our native films have shown this sort of an atmosphere since long long ago). I am not a big patriot, there are lots of thing I like and dislike about India. So it is good to accept the honest works from foreigners. Similarly when we make Indian films set in USA, we only consider the good elements. Only after watching the Hollywood films have I come to know about the things about that country. I don't like the fact that it is a country filled with a lot of sex addicts and homosexuals.
Trivia.
Do You know that there is a real show called 'Do you want to be a Millionaire' It is hosted by Amitabh Bachaan himself. He is the actor for whose autograph Jamal jumped into the pool of human excreta. In fact here Anil Kapoor is the host of this film (show)and also he is crooked and money-minded. The pool of excreta is actually a mixture of peanut and chocolate which gives the appearance of shit.
Hollywood can see Amitabh in 'The Great Gatsby'.
