Review of Slumdog Millionaire (2008) by Habi K — 28 May 2015
Slumdog Millionaire is a drama, romance movie directed by Danny Boyle in 2008 starring Dev Patel as Jamal Malik, Madhur Mittal as Salim Malik, Freida Pinto as Lathika, Irfan Khan who plays the Police Inspector and Anil Kapoor as Prem.
We're in India in the 2000s, the movie shows the touching story of Jamal a contestant of "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?". Suspected of cheating he will tells the Police Inspector so that he believes he is not a cheater; his story , the story of a slum kid who is left by his own with his brother salim and friend Lathika. It also shows the power of faith, love and how destiny can literally change at any time.
Slumdog Millionaire tells the story of Jamal Malik a young Indian and Muslim kid who lost his mother in an attack against the Muslims people of the slum where he lived. However, Jamal succeed in escaping the slum with Salim his brother thanks to Rama (an Indu God). It's when they met Lathika. Since the attack, the'' three muskeeters''; Lathika, Salim and Jamal are alone, they're staying in a dump. They will be lead in an orphenage by men who seems to be good and kind. The truth is that they are using the children to make themself rich by making them begging for money , making them blind so people will pity them and give them more money, and also prostituting them. Jamal was going to be the next victim of those men but Salim saved him but leaved Lathika behind. To survive, the kids stole from the tourist of the Taj Mahal, they were acting like they worked there. Jamal tried to find Lathika and no matter what they always find each other...
The plot of the movie is really entertaining and rich in emotions. The places are realistic, the viewers are automatically in the film.
In my opinion, Slumdog Millionaire is a movie wich shows the reality of the world : the conflict between religion wich result to massacre, the childhood in the poor society, is neglect, your birth' social rank doesn't define you or makes who you are, your destiny can change at any time; (Jamal was poor but at the end, he win millions in the emision) and also, the faith in love can makes you fulfill great things.
These movie is dazzling and is both entertaining and powerful. Slumdog Millionaire is a master piece, you should see it once in your lifetime!
