Review of Slumber Party Massacre II (1987) by Ian M — 06 Dec 2007
The home video market has a proud history of mis-leading box art, especially when it comes to horror films. When I first picked this up in the late eighties, I assumed that this was another prime example of such.
I was surprised to find otherwise. Yes, these are the same people from the film, and yes that is his fully functional drill-neck guitar. It's only connection to the first film is that they both feature power drill induced massacres at slumber parties.
In fact, if you're looking for highlight/flashbacks to the original you'll have to watch SORORRITY HOUSE MASSACRE II(???). While the original was a clever and dependable woman directed feminist satire of the slasher film genre, this one takes the absurdity even further.
The killer is like a 50's teen idol crossed with Andrew 'DICE' Clay, who's guitar-drill attacks are often accompanied by fully choreographed by musical numbers. Chrystal Bernhard snuck this film in between gigs on HAPPY DAYS and WINGS, probably leaving it off of her resume.
With the way her carreer is going nowadays, she might want to slap it back on there. Lumped in with alot of other junk at the end of the slasher film cycle, this under-appreciated "Tits 'n' blood" gem delivers with at least a surprising enthusiasm and originality.
Featuring the most disgusting zit sequence ever filmed.
