Review of Sling Blade (1996) by Katja A — 15 Jun 2008
F-ing brilliant! In 1996, Thornton was being called a genius and with good reason; this is a film of the highest order. Seductive, smoldering and deeply moving, it's masterfully paced and so psychologically complex that it haunted me for weeks.
The ensemble cast gave a half-dozen remarkable, individual performances that were something special, for sure. But Billy Bob outshined them with a phenomenal, magical performance! His transformation into Karl is almost chilling. His face, his speech, his walk, his hands...his every mannerism is altered. You'll have to look very hard to find Billy Bob Thornton beneath the Karl Childers character.
