Review of Sliding Doors (1998) by Katrine N — 26 Feb 2009
Interesting idea: The movie displays two parallel time-lines to explore the different paths that a woman's life might take after she does/doesn't find her boyfriend in bed with another woman. The suspension of disbelief needed to accept Helen's cluelessness or femme fatale Lydia's sadistic out-of-the-blue-appearances is annoying, and for a romantic comedy, there is not much humour.
What makes the film likeable to me is Gwyneth Paltrow's impressive performance as a Brit, and John Hannah's charm and adorable Scottish dialect. The chemistry between them is appealing, and the double-storyline premise is a good idea - albeit used to tell two not terribly interesting stories.
