Review of Sliding Doors (1998) by Veronica R — 13 Jun 2010
Praise has to be given to Sliding Doors for trying something new with the tired Romantic Comedy genre, even if the idea had already been done in the far superior German film Run Lola Run. Sadly the linear thread could not hide the fact that the storyline was exactly the same as countless other rom-coms and, if anything, it simply helped the writers to pad out a story that was lacking any interesting plot points or angles.
Gwyneth Paltrow does a good job but John Hannah gets increasingly annoying as the film progresses and John Lynch should try and find himself a new career because he can?t act! Some funny moments and admittedly an original take on the genre make this a worthy effort, nothing special though.
