I haven't seen the original, but this version is quite entertaining. Caine gives a typically excellent performance, and Law really lets rip into his character in a way I have never seen him do before.

The set is quite well-done, and most of the dialogue is quick, witty, and occasionally quite funny. At times, unfortunately, Branagh overdirects it, making the camera do tricks it really does not have to do.

The homoeroticism towards the end feels strange, uncomfortable and out of place. Aside from the performances and the script, though, there really isn't much to talk about. If you're a fan of Law and/or Caine, the movie is worth renting just to see their performances.

If not, you might pass it up. But then again, who isn't a fan of Michael Caine?
