Review of Sleuth (2007) by Mukbul M — 27 Oct 2008
It takes a talented director and actors to make a compelling movie out of two guys standing around talking to each other for 90 minutes. Sleuth delivers just that, with a simple plot involving mental games played between an eccentric writer and the man sleeping with his wife.
Michael Caine and Jude Law do a fantastic job, they play off each other well and keep the tone of the movie going. That tone is one that is both tense, and subversive. It starts off light and then slowly grows darker and darker to the climax of the film.
Also, the camera work is excellent, creative and minimalistic, it's refreshing to see a movie play with camera angles and shots a lot more.
And one more thing, there are some HEAVY homosexual overtones to the ending of the film. I mean, really, I wanted them to make out and get it over with already.
