Review of Sleuth (2007) by Adrian A — 16 Jan 2009
I am a huge fan of the stage play by Anthony Shaffer and simply loved the original feature film starring Michael Caine and Lawrence Olivier, but oh boy, this is a real treat as it has been adapted by the late Harold pinter and Directed by Kenneth Branagh. With so many greats under the roof of Twickenham Studios the result can only ever be a pure masterpiece.
The plot is the same, but the story has been brought very much into the 21st Century. Pure Theatre is given a Cinematic slant and I am in awe of the performers' timing and technical know-how.
For those of you unfamiliar with the story, it's about a game played by a crime writer and the man who has become his wife's lover, each trying to terrify the other. The plot is full of unexpected twists and is simply a work of genius.
