Review of Sleuth (2007) by Mat K — 04 Dec 2009
Not having seen the original I can't compare the two. However, this is a stylish and creepy cat and mouse game where you can't believe anything anyone is saying and you never know what the person's actually intentions are.
With Pinter's screenplay the dialogue is both naturalistic and unsettlingly unnatural. The lighting and the camera work lends itself to this feeling of unease. The decision to use only the two actors and shoot practically the entire thing inside the mansion give it a bit of claustrophobia.
As far as acting goes, Jude Law does a decent job, and Micheal Cain delivers a near perfect performance.
