As an exercise in dialgoue in acting, this film excels. Branagh's direction is also quite good. Not as wholly good as the original, but the dialogue exchanges between Caine and Law are as good as anything in the original.
This remake fails to surpass the original because the focus was ends up being on the extraordinary dialogue and the excellent acting, but not on the story itself.
