Review of Sleuth (1972) by Jovon T — 22 Nov 2010
Caught this on TV when I was suppose to be doing work....thought i'd compare it to the original.Good performances from both Law and Caine and it was interesting to see Caine playing the opposite character this time to what he did before.
This film is much darker and hasn't got many of the good black comedy moments that make the 1960s film so unique.
On it's own, it's a decent film about two men scheming against each other; the people who tend to like this film are the ones who haven't seen the original.
It'll never match the original, but it wasn't a bad attempt at modernising it and the things that they did change worked for the better. Law and Caine had some good chemistry and was intriguing seeing them acting alongside each other.
