Review of Sleight (2017) by Chris F — 28 Apr 2017
Sleight is a thoroughly entertaining film that mixes genres. The performances were great. Jacob Latimore was excellent in the lead role. Dule Hill is great as the supplier, and Seychelle Gabriel is good as the love interest.
The film mixes the superhero genre and the indie drama very well. If you are expecting an action spectacle, you'll be disappointed. This is first and foremost a drama with superhero elements. The film moves at a nice pace for the most part.
The film runs a little too slow in the second act of the film. Also, the romance element was weaker than the rest of the film. For a film with unrealistic elements, the film feels completely real. I also really liked the score and the direction.
Overall, this is a captivating film that is very unique. It uses familiar elements from other genres to create an enjoyable film. It isn't perfect, but it definitely delivers.
