Review of Sleepy Hollow (1999) by Al H — 22 Oct 2011
Though artfully done (as expected in any Tim Burton movie) and featuring an engaging pre-Pirates Johnny Depp, this adaptation of Washington Irving's classic tale is insanely creepy, frightening, and relentlessly violent/graphic.
It's as if the filmmakers tried to think of many creative ways to decapitate characters. I don't know about you, but I found it overkill and insulting. The story, meanwhile, is intriguing, provocative, and convoluted.
This may be Burton's most nightmarish film above "Batman Returns.".
