Tim Burton's stylish and imaginative adaptation of Washington Irvine's tale of Ichabod Crane and the Headless Horseman may be one of the most underrated and misjudged movies of all time. Sleepy Hollow is often misinterpreted by audiences; the film is frequently identified as a flawed and indifferent horror movie.

However, Sleepy Hollow was and is supposed to be seen as a tribute to the methods of old-fashioned filmmaking, in homage to the nineteen-fifties Hammer Horror films that spun gothic yarn amongst fog-laden landscapes.

The film is not designed or intended to scare or fright its audience, but rather to send chills down the spine of the viewer. Quintessentially Burton, Sleepy Hollow is one of the visionary directors' best told stories and by far his most visually intriguing and beautiful.

Sleepy Hollow is head rolling entertaining at its most cinematically haunting.
