Review of Sleepy Hollow (1999) by Matt M — 27 Dec 2013
Tim Burton takes on the Washington Irving tale of the headless monster in Sleepy Hollow who decapitates his victims, and the man sent to solve its mystery with his scientific mumbo jumbo methods - played here by Johnny Depp.
Over the years we have of course come to identify a certain eccentric gothic style of Tim Burton that half draws inspiration from the B-movies of old. Here, the effect is enjoyable and entertaining, yet it is one of those films in his filmography where the many self-indulgences and perhaps even exaggerations make it slip into parodical grounds.
