Review of Sleepy Hollow (1911) by Paul R — 07 Feb 2013
This is one of Tim Burton's more visually rich films. Each and every scene has such lavish attention and is so textured it really makes his fairy tale world come to life. Here Burton manages to make a horror film that is not really that horrifying, some gore here and well placed splatter there are off set by the quirky characters and their comedy glances and expressions.
Flying the Burton flag, as always, is none other than Johnny Depp in the lead role as Police investigator, Ichabod Crane. He is sent to the small town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a string of murders where the victims have all had their heads chopped off.
A stellar cast including the great Michael Gambon and kudos also goes to the lovely Christina Ricci. This is such a visually stunning film with a great cast and very effective score that you'll be able to forgive the odd clunkiness of the story and get lost in the beautifully foggy fairy tale backdrop of Sleepy Hollow.
Watch this.
