Review of Sleepwalking (2008) by Michael S — 06 Feb 2009

I was just looking at the reviews people posted on this film. One person wrote, "Cute movie well done job by the cast." I agree with the second part, but was she even watching the same film? If so, was she smoking the crack pipe at the same time? Makes me wonder about some people on this site...

Sleepwalking was a good film, but it could have been better. The story was hard hitting and real, but nothing about it was cute, in the least!

The movie examines the dynamics of the human relationship, in a very absolute and dysfunctional way.

I have to give Zac Stanford credit for this screenplay. The story was real and cutting. I did cry watching this. I also felt myself wanting more. I felt that some of the back story could have been explained better.

The cast in this movie was pretty good. Although, I didn't really get Woody Harrelson's bit part. Dennis Hopper plays bad very convincingly, always has. He made me hate him in this movie, so job well done.

I always love seeing Charlize Theron in films. She is a beauty and a great actress. My only complaint was there wasn't enough of her in this, and I would have liked to see Joleen and Tara's relationship explained more. AnnaSophia Robb is growing up fast! She did extremely well as Tara, I really felt her pain. I have liked Nick Stahl since his Disturbing Behavior days. I think he is an underrated talent. He broke my heart in this film, as James. And the chemistry he and AnnaSophia had was stellar. They really worked well off of each other, the relationship was very convincing.

Sleepwalking is a moving film. It's raw and touching, but again, NOT CUTE. Please people...Try actually watching the film before randomly writing crap about it!

It is definitely worth a look if you haven't seen it, but bring your Kleenex.
