Review of Sleepwalking (2008) by Nicole I — 04 Dec 2008
It's really a shame that this wasn't better. We could have had some potential oscar winners here. One of the things that ruined it was the fact that a lot of scenes appear to have been cut out (especially if you compare it to the trailer). "Sleepwalking" clearly had good intentions but the tone is depressing and the pacing is sluggish. Almost half of the scenes are montages and a majority of the others are filled with nothing but silence. It does have some depth, but from what I can tell any potential that this movie had for being uplifting and beautiful was lost on the cutting room floor. I suppose I could accept it "as is" but I just can't help but yearn for this 'beautiful and compelling story' that everyone keeps talking about. Because I KNOW that it's in there somewhere.
It would be nice if there were an extended version or a directors cut available. Then it could live up to it's potential and we could get at least a taste of what could have been.
On an added note. AnnaSophia Robb is amazing through and though in this. You can tell (especially in the 'making of' portion of the DVD) that she is mature beyond her years. I was absolutely blown away. As for Charlize Theron, she is a great actress and in the 'Making Of' you can tell that she had a really great vision for this movie. I just wish that we could have seen more of it.
