Review of Sleepwalk with Me (2012) by Thomas W — 08 Dec 2012
While a bit slow and slight, the film is perfectly watchable if one is in the mood to watch a relatively short film (75 minutes) about a 30-something-ish guy trying to figure out his place in life. A wannabe comedian (Mike Birbiglia) spends his time bartending and wishing he could have a career onstage as a funnyman; but he isn't funny and his long-time girlfriend (Lauren Ambrose) wants to get married while his parents (James Rebhorn and Carol Kane) hassle him about not having a steady career.
As his life becomes more tense and stressful, Matt finds himself sleepwalking and acting out his dreams which becomes (more) dangerous when he finally gets some stand-up gigs (by writing new material using life experiences as jokes) and he finds himself touring state-to-state alone.
Part funny part serious, Sleepwalk with Me isn't a great film but its a decent watch as Matt's insecurities and uncertainties with life should resonate with most. His life wasn't what he imagined for himself, so he sets out to change what he can.
