Review of Sleepwalk with Me (2012) by Raheem H — 05 Jan 2013
"Sleepwalk With Me" doesn't -- can't -- compete with the riotous one-man show/stand-up performance that inspired it, but it's not a bastard adaptation either. That's because droll stand-up comedian Mike Birbiglia adapted his own act with the help of "This American Life" host Ira Glass, and are aided by a cast of pros that includes Lauren Ambrose as Birbiglia's supportive, loyal girlfriend, and James Rebhorn and Carol Kane as his bickering parents.
It's a solid, drily funny yarn that occasionally frays into sitcom territory. Still, I'd highly recommend seeking out Birbiglia's "This American Life" monologue first.
