Review of Sleepless in Seattle (1993) by Katie H — 27 Aug 2009
After watching this again, I didn't find it as enjoyable. Hanks and Ryan both play their parts wonderfully, and the kids, Pullman, and O'Donnell provide some nice comedy, but much like they almost "satirize" w/ An Affair to Remember (while honoring the classic), the story is played out with fantastic moments that are over the top and overly sweet moments that are saccharine and glossy.
While there is something comfortable, and familiar, and warm-hearted about it, albeit cardboard-like, I lost some interest about half-way to two-thirds of the way through when the film's steam seemed to run out.
The film's made for saps more-so than romantics. It's made for those who enjoy their sentimentality, and not for those who enjoy ingenuity and true sentiment along with their romance. Suspension of disbelief is needed.
And I didn't have all that much here, enjoyable though it is.
