Review of Sleepless (2017) by Chris F — 20 Apr 2017
Sleepless isn't a terrible action-thriller, but t isn't a good one. Jamie Foxx is fine in the lead role. Michelle Monaghan also tries her best. None of the performances are bad. None of them are anything worth talking about.
For about the first hour of the film, it is a passable and serviceable movie. It isn't anything amazing, but it isn't terrible. But then the last half hour happens. It just turns up the ridiculousness for a film that was taking itself seriously.
The action turns stupid, and the plot turns dumb. The characters make dumb, unrealistic decisions, and the plot twists and turns become predictable. It gets just straight up terrible. The film wasn't anything special before, but now t just became bad.
Overall, this isn't a horrendous film. But the film doesn't distinguish itself from any other action movie like it. By the time the third act comes around, you just don't care. The film can't mix its ridiculousness from its seriousness, and suffers because of it.
