Review of Sleeping Beauty (2011) by John M — 01 Dec 2011
Emily Browning is really engaging in this; the anchor that keeps you invested in this story that is somewhat interesting but cold and distantly staged. this may be off-putting for many viewers as well as the subject of the film itself, but there is nothing genuinely erotic or exploitative about this film despite the erotic intent of some of its supporting characters (their intent is more tragic, really).
I found the rich, open, stark photography and sets to be engrossing. coupled with Brownings performance, it was a unique character piece, but one that I can't recommend to many people.
