Review of Sleeping Beauty (2011) by Jackie C — 16 Apr 2012
Sleeping Beauty as its name suggest is literally the story of a woman sleeping through life. Lucy is the epitome of passiveness and dabbles in an assortment of activities such as drugs and sex in order to try and wake herself up from her slumber.
Emily Browning's emotionless and compliant performance as Lucy emits to the audience the horrifying consequences of being docile and uncaring. Her submission to her clients is the illusion to her languish stance in life.
The vice of Sleeping Beauty is the underdevelopment, the unexplored ideas and the lack of a definitive story or voice this seems to be rooted in Julia Leigh's lack of experience as a director this being her first film.
To finish Sleeping Beauty is not a movie for the majority; it's not for amusement or entertainment but as a comment on society.
