Review of Sleeping Beauty (2011) by Artemis X — 12 Mar 2013
I'm okay with a film resembling a theme of an old fairy tale, even as slight as it may be in this case, if there were more artistic license applied to it. Something I think most reviewers are ignoring is that this is not meant to be an adult play on a fairy tale classic. That aside, this film completely lacks any sort of substance outside of cinematography--which was beautifully executed by the way, in fact I would say looking at it is its only saving grace. Too bad this was not a picture book or it would have done well there.
You're left wandering aimlessly through Lucy's life which I guess is appropriate since that's her one and only personality trait that we're given. Oh I'm sorry, there's also crying Lucy, though you're not entirely sure why she's crying, and terrified Lucy whom is vehemently clear why she's terrified and then that's it. The End.
