Review of Sleeping Beauty (1959) by Rebecca H — 19 Jun 2009
Okay, so here's another Disney film that slipped under the radar as a kid. Now people can stop yelling at me for having not seen it: Princess falls under a sleeping spell by a witch and must be woken with true love's kiss.
Jaw-droppingly beautiful Disney production! This demands to be seen in widescreen for the lush, panoramic visuals that are done in the style of 14th century medieval artwork. All of it set to the enveloping, vibrant "Sleeping Beauty Suite" by Tchaikovsky.
While the story is honestly passable, as I'm not particularly partial to fairy tales anymore, I was totally blown away by the production values the Mouse House invested in this film, and that was enough to garner my attention.
