Review of Sleeping Beauty (1959) by Jackson W — 09 Nov 2011
Sleeping Beauty blew me away. I was thinking it was going to be another fairy tale out of the book story from Walt himself, but this definitely exceeded all expectations and standards for one of these films.
Being a fan of medieval art, I love how it was used in the scenery here, and all the rest of the animation is fantastic. The singing is so luscious and pure you may get misty at how sweet it sounds. Also, all the characters work here in a ballet form (since the film was based on Tchaikovsy's ballet, smart changeup by Walt) and are lead by Maleficent, the most diabolical and downright black-hearted Villian ever to be made by the Disney team.
