Review of Sleepers (1996) by Andrew W — 13 Jul 2010
The fact that it is allegedly based on a true story really makes my heart ache. The fact that these things actually occur is horrifying.
The plot grabs you from the start as you watch the boys interact with eachother brilliantly and then it takes a radical turn once they make that one mistake. To think that one small mistake can change your life.
The plot is very intense it reaches out and really touches your soul and mind. And it doesn't leave you for quite some time. I watxhed ot two days ago and it's still with me, that's just how good it was.
The acting is brilliant. Both from the young boys and well we all expect brilliance from De Niro and Hoffman. Watch De Niros face as Jason Patric tells him what really happened at that faculty. That my friends is brilliant acting. Enter Hoffman as the drunkard lawyer and you have some kind of morbid humor mixed into it. Bacon is perfect as the creepy and sadidticly cruel guard that gave me a serious case of the creeps.
In reality, I don't think you could have pulled off the leagal scam Pitt,Patric,Hoffman and De Niro did in the end. But the story still drags you in and makes you think. I cried, I laughed and I was horrified. Brilliant cast, great performances by all, great plot. Defeinitley worth watching.
