Review of Sleepers (1996) by Brian H — 17 Aug 2010
A wrenching thriller. Barry Levinson brings Hoffman and Deniro together again for a fast-paced, thoughtful film about revenge. In Wag The Dog the two stars held the center of the stage. Here, they play from the wings to an incredible cast comprised of Minnie Driver, Kevin Bacon, Brad Pitt (when he was still edgy) and Billy Crudup.
Levinson adapted this true story as well as directing and brought a very saavy sense of dialect to the script. When King (the mob boss) says of pigeons in the park "I like anything that doesn't talk" I laughed in delight at the veracity of the film's tone.
