Review of Sleeper (2012) by Caspar B — 03 Aug 2007
Airplane, Blazing Saddles, probably Borat and Sleeper. For my money these are the four funniest movies every made. I remember the first time my borther and I saw the opening scene... I thought he was going to die laughing.
I would have called someone but I was laughing too hard myself. Allen made the film apparently because he wanted to be a more accomplished physical comedian like his hero Buster Keaton. He achieved it in my opinion.
Remeber this is a guy who made his name with very literary comic absurdity. To pull off that kind of mime and slaptick was one hell of an achievement. Once again, people always think he came of age with Manhattan and Hannah and Her Sisters as if slapstick is simple.
Any critic who thinks that should try directing farce. Instead of pontificating in print or on the radio. Fuck me Mark Kermode is shit. Sorry. I'm digressing.
