Review of Sleepaway Camp (1983) by Branden L — 10 Mar 2008
"Sleepaway Camp" is by no means a masterpiece, it is barely an okay movie. The acting is tolerable, the script is cliched, and the production values are subpar. However, there is a certain atmosphere in "Sleepaway Camp" that is genuinely eerie and holds up for the entire film, but really it's all about the ENDING, man.
It is absolutely jaw-dropping. I like to think of myself as someone who has seen many, many films good and bad. Because of this, it is very hard to shock me, or at least as far as I am concerned. However, other than the deer scene in "Freddy Got Fingered" or the torure scene in "Marathon Man" or maybe the rape scene in "Straw Dogs," never has a film just plain-old SHOCKED me like the end of "Sleepaway Camp.
" Because of that, as well as its okay sequels, I love "Sleepaway Camp," it is an American classic.
