Review of Sleepaway Camp (1983) by Alyssa N — 10 Jan 2009
The story is disturbing, and the atmosphere is unsettling, but there's still not enough here to keep it from being just another mediocre horror film. The plot and dialogue are weak, though what's worse is that there are few moments where it's ever truly frightening.
One of those is the ending, which offers a shocking twist and one of the freakiest facial expressions ever, both of which gave me goose bumps. But as with many of these low-budget slasher films, I have to wonder how much scarier the whole movie could have been if they'd simply put in the effort to find more decent actors.
