Review of Sleepaway Camp (1983) by Juggernaut — 03 Aug 2008
Campy Horror (little seen) slasher classic of the 80's. Really hasnt stood the test of time ageing badly, but in some respects this adds to the cheesyness of it all. And while the "Final" shock can be seen as a little over the top (the psychotic aunt is the only down point of this film), theres still an element that chills to the bone when you see that final freeze frame. The deaths are not quite as gory or in your face such as friday the 13th, or as creative and fantastical as Nightmare on Elm Street. But there is a kitsh appeal to procedings. But above all things it is an enjoyable slasher..with one of the best horror endings this side of Friday the 13th.
Kick back, grab some mates, few beers, and have a laugh, guarantee most people will be saying "What the fuck just happened there" as the freeze frame fades out.
