Review of Sleepaway Camp (1983) by Nick C — 10 Feb 2009
During the beggining of this movie I asked myself the question of "what have I let myself in for". As the movie opens we are given bad acting and a feeling that this movie will never end. As the movie goes on the acting starts to get better and you develop a natural hate for select characters so that when the killing starts you'll be there cheering. It's obvious who the killer is from very early on which does make you wonder why you are still watching the movie if the twist is already apparent. Luckily the classic twist that has stuck with many horror fans till this very day is what saves the movie. Not only is the end scene well scripted but it is well filmed and has a very creepy but dramatic effect.
All in all I would say that this movie is very close to being a poor man's "Friday The 13th". However it manages to stand on it's own two feet and deliver it's self surprisingly well. A must see for horror fans.
P.s. Seriously, the twist is really well done.
