Review of Sleep Dealer (2008) by Generoso F — 17 May 2009
This dystopian view of the impact of globalization on the third world borrows is narrative from another hackneyed dystopian science fiction film, Kathryn Bigalow's hugely disappointing "Strange Days".
The film's not too subtle political message is complete with a large corporation controlling the water supply to impoverished villages to electronically controlled sweatshop workers. I give credit to Rivera for doing so much visually on a fairly small budget ( by Hollywood standards) but the film is so wrapped up in it's message and visual method that you have no feeling for it's characters.
