SLEEP DEALER and DISTRICT 9 both did great jobs of pushing sci-fi as mystic allegories for contemporary social commentaries. The problem is that the filmmaking/ storytelling still wasn't quite there on both of them either because of budgetary issues or simply because the filmmakers still haven't grown as directors.
What succeeds in their films are their ideas and their intent- so, can't wait to see what they can do with their originality when they're matured their talents.
