Review of SLC Punk (1998) by Immortal Disciple — 07 Jan 2011
Hey, listen to this....What is it bob!.....It's new.
This movie pretty much summed up what I felt about music when I was a teen.
A lot of posers that listened to punk and new wave and thought the U.K. was 'everything' cool.
New wave douche-bags, preppies and the sort were fodder for my cannon.
New wave!?
Look where that music is now. Disco of the 80's.
Being a metal fan and not punk I did cross the line with friends as depicted in this film. I knew who where true.
Punkers and Mods. Four very good friends at least. That's punk!
I did have arguments about anarchy and how it was no better than 'the system'. Much like the conversation between Stevo and Chris.
I think Stevo comes to some sort of realization after this conversation and the one with Brandy, which was the most profound.
While I don't want to give anything away, this does have a sad and ironic drug related ending.
Stevo ends up being a poser.
Well, not really because he still wants to fuck the system.
BTW I still listen to Rush.
So, I'm a poser too, well FUCK YOU!
Now go listen to your Blink 182 and say you're punk. Fag.
