Review of Slap Shot (1977) by Adam H — 10 Jan 2008
'Caddyshack'? Eh. 'Bull Durham'? Maybe. 'Slap Shot'? Definitely the greatest sports film ever made. I don't think that any other film has ever really "captured the spirit of the thing," or "put on the foil.
" Of course, how can you deny Paul Newman as an aging minor league hockey coach with a potty mouth, or Strother Martin as a penny-pinching owner with transgender leanings? Acting brilliance, when taking into account their roles in 'Cool Hand Luke', if you ask me.
Oh yeah, and those Hanson Brothers are a hoot!
