Review of Slap Shot (1977) by Darryl L — 03 Sep 2009
I like Paul Newman but I've been disappointed by most of his movies. I watched Slap Shot because I heard it is one of the best sports movies and one of Newman's best movies. These things are true.
Slap Shot is raunchy and violent but is basically a comedy. Think Bull Durham on ice and in the 1970s, which makes it a bit depressing because all movies filmed in the 1970s feel depressing when you watch them today.
Be warned: this hockey movie is not for kids because of some nudity including the bare ass of a young Michael Ontkean (that's the sheriff from Twin Peaks).
