Review of Slap Shot (1977) by Herbert R — 16 Nov 2010
I love this movie! It is crude, violent, and above all- has Paul Newman while he was still in his prime. As a girl, that really counts for a lot.
This is the hockey movie that started it all- while I'm not an insane fan of the Hanson brothers, I do enjoy all the characters reactions to their shenanigans "They're a bunch of retards!" "Putting on the foil, coach!".
And who could overlook at the very end when the camera pans out from the street view that the local theatre is playing "Deep Throat"? There really is no movie like this.
The plot is a little heavy for just a "hockey" comedy but if you like sports comedy movies, old hockey even (like Eddie Shore!), nudity, and crass humor- definitely take the time to watch this- you won't regret it.
